What’s Next for Tony Ferguson?

Another loss for Tony Ferguson against Michael Chandler means that the former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion is on a four fight losing streak.

In all four fights, Tony has been beaten in convincing fashion and I think he could be potentially be cut from the UFC.

One thing Tony has that could prevent that is the fact he’s a big star and draw for the company. A lot of casual fans know of Tony and know what he’s done and if he’s on a card his name stands out.

However, Tyron Woodley, former Welterweight Champion, lost his last four fights in a row and was cut from the company despite him being a big draw due to his title run. He’s definitely not as notable as Tony, but he’s still a big name nonetheless.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC cut Tony soon. However, I don’t think it’s fair to cut him even though he’s lost four in a row. He’s lost to Gaethje, Oliveira, Dariush and Chandler, who are four of the top six lightweights in the UFC. I think it’s fair to give him a fight against and upcoming fighter, such as Arman Tsarukyan or Rafael Fiziev, if he can’t win that type of fight, I think it’s time to say goodbye to Tony.

I hope Tony gets one more chance to prove how good he is but everyone’s time at the top of the game ends at some point. He might not be able to beat the best in the world but he’s still a top level fighter.

Losing four in a row when you were one win away from being the Undisputed champion can’t be good for the mental health of Tony, so I hope he does whatever is good for him, possibly taking a bit of time off, spending time with his loved ones. Hopefully he returns when he’s ready or if he thinks it’s time to hang up the gloves, the fans wholeheartedly support his decision either way.
