Ciryl Gane Deserves More Respect

Last week at UFC 265, Ciryl Gane put on a near-perfect performance to win the UFC’s Interim Heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis. Lewis, who’s been in and around the title picture for years, had nothing to contend with Gane’s technical brilliance, as he picked Lewis apart with low kicks and body shots. Yet, MMA fans and media are still disrespecting the Frenchman.

Gane has beaten former champion Junior Dos Santos, who wasn’t anywhere near his prime but still was a brilliant fighter, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov, who are both brilliant fighters. Although these men aren’t on the level of the likes of Daniel Cormier, Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou, they are highly skilled and Gane beating these men after doing MMA for only 3 years is an incredible accomplishment.

I’ve seen journalists say that ‘Bon Gamin’ isn’t next in line for the belt and the next fight for the Heavyweight strap should still be Jones vs Ngannou. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see that fight more than Gane vs Ngannou however, by winning the interim belt, that solidifies Gane as next in line for the undisputed belt.

Jones will probably not fight this year so why should Gane have to wait, especially if Ngannou should be fit to fight again before the end of the year. Personally, I believe that the winner of Gane vs Ngannou should face Jones or they should face the winner of Jones vs Miocic, nevertheless, I strongly abject leaving the interim champion out of the title talks.
