It’s been a while but I’m back for a bit and today I’m going to take a look at my favourite UFC fights from over the last 10 years.
5. Isreal Adesanya vs Kelvin Gastelum – UFC 236
This is my favourite fight of this year, just ahead Romero vs Costa, and Adesanya and Gastelum went at each other for five rounds for the middleweight interim championship. Both men scored knockdowns leading into the final round, in which we saw Adesanya dominate helping him to win the fight via unanimous decision. This fight was just amazing to watch and both men showed incredible heart to stay in the fight.
4. Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey -UFC 195
This fight saw the beginning of the end for Rousey. Going into this bout Rousey was the favourite, and she was looking unstoppable as well, however, a left head kick from Holm in round 2, gave Holm the win and the Bantamweight title. What I love about this one is the shock factor of the fight, no one expected the fight to end in that fashion and I still get goosebumps watching it to this day.
3. Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 1 – UFC 165
Both men ended up in hospital after this fight. Just a flat out war in which Gustafsson looked good in the early rounds, yet as the fight progressed, Jones grew more into it and knockdown Gustafsson multiple times, nevertheless he held on until the end of the 5th round. Jones won by unanimous decision in conclusion, but Gustafsson put up a fight that we’ll never forget.
2. Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen 1 – UFC 117
Two of the greatest middleweights to ever compete, Silva and Sonnen tore the house down at the start of the decade. Silva was under pressure for the majority of the fight and it seemed as if Sonnen was going to win in convincing fashion, with him dominating the fight for 20 minutes. However, ” The Spider” was able to pull out an incredible triangle choke to take the victory. There was controversy over if Sonnen submitted or not, but in the end, the decision went to Silva.
1. Shogun Rua vs Dan Henderson 1 – UFC 139
This fight started with Henderson coming out of the gates fast making Shogun bleed from a minute in. However, Shogun fought back and this fight was just outstanding. Both men showed off incredible standup game and ground game as well. The fight went to Henderson in the end, however, both men showed why both men are greats of the light heavyweight division by putting it all on the line for 25 minutes.
